How to place tracking markers correctly

Goal:
Place reflective markers in a way that ensures stable and accurate tracking.

When you need this:

• Doing a new setup

• Tracking is unstable

• Map quality is poor

• Frequent marker misidentification

Prerequisites:

• Reflective markers

• Clear mounting surface (ceiling or floor)

Steps:

1. Choose a flat surface (ceiling preferred when possible).

2. Place markers in an irregular pattern (avoid grids or repeating shapes).

3. Vary distances between markers across the area.

4. Avoid placing markers too close together.

5. Ensure markers are securely mounted and visible to the camera.

Expected result:

• Markers are detected consistently

• Mapping progresses smoothly without excessive noise

Common issues / fixes:

• Too many markers → remove some to reduce density

• Repeating patterns → reposition to make layout irregular

• Floor reflections → increase detection threshold during mapping

Escalate to support if:

• Marker placement follows guidelines but tracking remains unstable
